Summary of Metallic levels of Health Insurance Plans

  • Platinum Plans: These are the most expensive plans. They have the lowest deductibles ($100 - $1,000), lowest Dr. visit copays and prescription drug costs. They are intended to pay for about 90% of your overall medical costs.

  • Gold Plans: These are moderately expensive plans. They have moderate deductibles (usually $1,000 - $2,500). Moderate Dr. visit copays and prescription drug costs.They are calculated to cover about 80% of your overall medical costs.

  • Silver Plans: These are moderately expensive plans. They have moderate deductibles (usually $2,500 - $5,000). Moderate Dr. visit copays and prescription drug costs.They are calculated to cover about 70% of your overall medical costs.

  • Bronze Plans: These are the least expensive plans for those who do not qualify for Catastrophic plans. They have fairly high deductibles (usually $5,000 - $6,600). More expensive Dr. visit copays and prescription drug costs.They are calculated to cover about 60% of your overall medical costs.

  • Catastrophic Plans: These plans are only available to young people up to age 30 and are the least expensive plans available. They have the highest deductibles allowed (usually $6,600). Have very high (or no) Dr. visit copays (meaning you pay 100% until the deductible is reached) and prescription drug costs.They are calculated to cover about 50% of your overall medical costs.
